How to Turn Your Voice Demo Into a Video for YouTube and X

Turn an audio-only voice demo into a video you can post on YouTube and X. When to send audio instead, what to put on screen, how to cut a short clip for X, and the script rights to check before posting.

  • Send agencies and auditions an audio file in the format they ask for. Make a video only when you post your demo on YouTube or X.
  • An image with your name and specialty, plus a line that moves with your voice, is enough to turn an audio demo into a video.
  • Post the full demo on YouTube, and a short clip of your strongest part on X.

Audio or Video, Depending on Where It Goes

Different places expect your demo in different forms.

WhereFormLength
Agencies and auditionsThe audio file they specifyWhatever the listing asks for
YouTubeVideoThe full demo (2 to 3 minutes if nothing is specified)
XVideoA short clip of your strongest part

You do not need to turn a demo into a video for an agency or an audition. If the listing names a format or length, send an audio file that matches it.

When no length is given, 2 to 3 minutes is a common target, and Japanese voice acting schools recommend the same. Say your name in the first five seconds or so, then move into narration and character reads.

What to Put on Screen

YouTube and X do not accept audio files on their own, so you need a picture to go with the sound. You do not have to show your face or make anything elaborate.

Two things on screen are enough:

  • Your name. If people often say it wrong, add how to pronounce it.
  • Your specialty, such as narration or character work.

A line that moves with your voice over your name card shows on screen that your voice is playing.

Put your contact details and profile link in the YouTube description or the post on X, not in the image. If they change, you will not need to remake the video.

Make Your Demo Video in Sonoray

The Sonoray editor adds a line that moves with your voice to your audio file and exports a video. It is free, and the video has no watermark. Your voice file is not uploaded to a server. It is processed on your computer.

Sonoray does not add text to the video, so put your name and specialty into the background image first. Make the background a 16:9 image. An image in a different shape is cropped from the center, and its position cannot be moved.

  1. Make a 16:9 background image with your name and specialty.
  2. Load your demo's audio file (MP3, WAV, or M4A) in the editor.
  3. In Setup, set the format to 16:9 and choose your image as the background.
  4. Choose Line as the shape.
  5. In Adjust, open Size & position and place the line below your name, low enough that it does not touch the text.
  6. In Export, set the resolution to 1080p and export an MP4. The file will be 1920 × 1080.

Position X / Position Y50% / 73%
Response / Smoothing1.00× / 80%

With the height kept at 10%, the line stays well below your name, even on loud lines.

To try focusing the movement on speech, open Motion in Adjust and set Frequency focus to Midrange (500 to 2,000 Hz). This only changes how the line moves. The volume and sound of your voice stay the same.

Post a Short Clip on X

On X, accounts without a paid plan have a limit on video length. Instead of posting the whole 2 to 3 minute demo, cut out your strongest role or read. More people will listen to the end. Put the full demo on YouTube and link to it from your post.

You can cut the clip in Sonoray's Range panel. Set the start point first and then the end point, because moving the start point also moves the end point. Keep the same background image and export only that part.

Check These Before Posting

Once your demo is on YouTube or X, anyone can hear it. That is different from sending it to an agency, so check three things first:

  • The script. Use one you wrote, or a free script that says it can be used in public posts. Do not post reads of lines taken straight from anime or games.
  • Your scene partner. If you recorded with someone else, ask whether they are fine with it being public.
  • Music and sound effects. If you added any, check that their license allows public posting.
